As women, we face a world that is filled with expectations, limitations, and myths. One of the most harmful myths we encounter is the belief that we can't have it all - a successful career, a happy personal life, and the freedom to pursue our passions. This myth not only holds us back, but it also fuels feelings of guilt and doubt, and stops us from reaching our full potential.
However, what if I told you that this myth is just one of the 100 walls that we create in our minds and hearts? The truth is that we don't need to have it all. It can be overwhelming. All we need is what is meant for us and us alone.
Everything happens at the right time. Even if you don't have what you want now, the future holds countless opportunities and open doors. And if you do eventually get what you want, then it was meant for you. However, if you don't get it, then perhaps someone else has a bigger picture, and what you thought you wanted wasn't what you needed after all.
While the statement may be true, a wall like that can prevent you from dreaming and wanting more in your life.
Shattering the Myth:
Your past has an effect on your confidence. It could be your parents who liked to tell you as a child, “You can’t have everything you want,” maybe when you saw that scooter or bike you wanted so bad. Your past probably instilled some doubt in your possibilities, and now you just say it to yourself as an excuse. The excuse will keep you low enough not to want anything.
The "having it all" myth thrives on a foundation of societal pressures and outdated expectations. We're told that we must choose between career success and motherhood, ambition and family life. We're bombarded with images of the "perfect" woman who effortlessly juggles it all, leaving us feeling inadequate and like we're constantly falling short.
But the truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all definition of "having it all." It's not about achieving some pre-determined ideal or ticking off boxes on a societal checklist. It's about living a life that is authentic, fulfilling, and aligned with your values and aspirations.
Reclaiming Your Power:
So, how do we break free from this myth and reclaim our power? Here are three key steps:
1. Redefine "having it all" for yourself. What truly matters to you? What brings you joy and purpose? What kind of life do you envision for yourself? Take some time to reflect on your values, dreams, and priorities. Once you have a clear understanding of what "it all" means for you, you can start making choices that align with that vision.
2. Embrace flexibility and imperfection. Life is not a linear path. There will be times when your career takes center stage, and there will be times when your personal life needs more attention. The key is to be flexible and adaptable. Don't be afraid to adjust your priorities and course-correct as needed. Remember, there's no such thing as a perfect balance, and striving for it will only lead to stress and disappointment.
3. Build a strong support system. You don't have to do it all alone. Surround yourself with supportive people who believe in you and your dreams. Lean on your family, friends, colleagues, and mentors. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Having a strong support system can make all the difference in navigating the challenges and opportunities that life throws your way.
Change your belief and rephrase. Instead of building and supporting the wall of IMPOSSIBLE, make it the road of POSSIBLE.
You can start by saying something like:
I can have everything I need and that was meant for me.
Then it is up to you to believe what is meant for you and how you can get there.
Ask yourself these questions:
What do I think I want but can’t have?
What makes me think I can’t have it?
Why do I need it?
What will change if I change the way I think about it?
“Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.”—Earl Nightingale
